Although Facebook is definitely popular these days, upon looking into the subject involving school libraries I found it to be quite the opposite. I did a search on school libraries and my choices were few. I found one for John H. Wood Middle School here in San Antonio and saw that 43 people liked the page and only 57 people had actually visited the site. Perhaps the site is fairly new? I'm not sure. Although upon reviewing the page I found some interesting photos of a library being remodeled. I saw things like walls and ceilings being redone, new computers and printers being installed and even quotes by the librarian about the hours and informative tidbits of information about events and such.
I found the page to be enlightening (my school's library is slated to be remodeled in the next year-so I'll know what to expect). I also felt it made the library readily accessible to all of its users. I actually was quite impressed with this website. It was attractive and fun to look at. The only problem I saw was that there were many student photos posted and I wasn't sure if that was allowable, considering the law with FERPA and its stipulations.
The other site I looked into was for Theodore Roosevelt High School. I found that Facebook had actually made a page for it because people were referencing it in their Facebook posts. So although the high school did not have an "official page," Facebook actually drug it in and made a page for it. Hmmm, strange, I suppose we all will be brought into the digital age whether we like it or not and perhaps whether we even know it or not. Chuckle, chuckle....
I was surprised to learn that the Texas Medical School library has a FaceBook page. They post really cool info! So I think the thing is to make sure people know about it, and then be sure to deliver~
